The pump is in the rear of the gas tank. Since it goes in from the back, you might not have to fully remove the tank, just lower it. If the bolts on the straps snap (probably will) the tank has to come right out.

It is in the fuel tank. You will have to drop tank to replace.

Well sorry to say it is inside the gas tank.
To get at it you will have to drop the gas tank and replace it.
