A lot has to do with the dog itself. they are very hyper I know some that are great with kids and tehn I've met some tht are just not good with kids. I have helped waith dog obedience classes. Terriers can be unpredictable and that's why you hear both. if you are considering in getiing one I would suggest finding a breeder and asking for references.
Good luck

It would depend on the dog's personality and how well socialized they are. However, being that jack russells, like most terriers, are tend to be hyper dogs, i wouldn't suggest getting one to be a pet for a smaller child. Look for breeds that are known to be more calmer. Hyper dogs and smaller dogs could turn to biting if they are not tolerant of children being rough with them. Some breeds to consider are: Labradors, golden retrievers, American Staffordshire terriers (larger terriers that actually are great with kids), newfoundlands, great danes, rottweilers.

My brother has a Jack Russell. They need A LOT of attention. they are ok with children if they are given the time and attention that they need. i would not recommend getting one with a baby in the house though. I would say about the age of three or four would be a good age to start being with kids.

As far as I know, yes.
They have lots of energy and love to run around.
And they don't get too big so if they jump on a young child it won't knock them down.

No. They are high strung, and not good for children. They make great dogs to train for shows, obstacle courses, racing, and things like that. High energy, high intelligence, low socialability.
