Actually Dante got his concept of hell from the Apocrypha Gospels (Revelations of Paul and Peter). These book are not included in the Bible and are way more harsh.

Why would you think that Europeans got their concept of Hell from Dantes? He didn't write his work on Hell until the early 1300's...so Hell had been around for a while before he bothered to write anything about it.

Europeans, including Dante, got their concept of hell from the teaching of the Catholic Church, including but not limited to the Bible.
