As others have said, the software is legal. Using it to obtain copyrighted file is illegal. If you don't know if a file is copyrighted, assume it is. You will be correct far more often then wrong.

I'm not sure...but I know that if you are sharing music, then you can easily get busted...set you limewire not to share, and you should be fine.
