All religions say that there is only one God.
God is named and described differently by different religions.
The question of living without God does not arise as He lives in all of us.

No. Religion has nothing to do with God. The problem is that every religion teaches that it is the "best" religion and the only one that it absolutely true. So long as religions teach that, there will be disunity. God is God. God is the creator of the universe. God has absolutely nothing to do with the religions factions. That's what it means. Believe in God, but ignore religion

Religion is the opiate of the masses- Karl Marx
Doesn't sound like disunity to me. The unity of believers. Irreligion is each person doing what ever he wants, though this may be preferred, it cannot be considered unity.

Religion is not the cause of disunity. Religion in itself is a virtue (a habit producing good) that responds favorably to God or the Holy One. Injustice and the vices of pride, greed, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and sloth are the real reasons of disunity. Unfortunately, at times, some vicious and unjust people use "religion" to justify their evil acts. ("Evil" literally means the absence of good.)
Differences of theological perspectives or terminology need to be discussed in a open environment. The Roman Catholic Church has had open dialogues with the Muslims, Protestants, Judaism, Hindus, and Buddhists. Also, there is a World Council of Churches comprised of the majority of Protestant churches that have "come to terms" about baptism, communion, and worship.
Roman Catholic Church and the Lutheran church have come to terms about justification.
A Trappist monk, Thomas Merton and a Buddhist monk, Thich Naht Hahn worked hard to "come to terms" with each others perspectives of spirituality. This has caused tremendous amount of following and spiritual good as a result for many people.
So, there is greater good in the religious world than what is often preceived.

It isn't better to live without God. The so called religions are what make this world a terrible place to live b/c of that desunity you're talking about.
I've known some atheists and they are more open minded than religious fanatics. God is real, there's scientific proof of that... now, when you deal with brainwashed people brainwashing masses (exclusively for the purpose of mass domination) of people, you find a buch of yerks.
It's frustrating to deal with them.
It could be any type of collective stupidity what you're talking about, not necessarely religious...

I think the problem lies in the logic (or lack thereof) of the cause-and-effect relationship with this one. If red makes the Bull angry, white doesn't necessarily make him happy. I just think this is a very general "cute" quote for people who like knowledge, but lack wisdom.
