Hi,
I bought SAP ECC6.0 pre-installed on a 320GB HDD on Windows2003 Server. But when I tried to instal the hard disk on my PC, the computer gets restarted while loading windows all the time. It starts loading Windows2003 and gives a blue screen for less than 1 second and restarts. I am not able to load windows on the PC at all. My friend said that it could be because the HDD was installed on a different motherboard while loading Windows2003 Server and it is not compatible with my motherboard. He suggested me to insert a Windows2003 Server CD and boot the computer and press "R" to repair it. However, he said that even after this there is no assurance that the applications installed will be working properly.

Please let me know a possible solution. I have a HP Pavillion m8095a PC with 2GB RAM and 2.4GHz processor.

Thanks,
Zubair

The 2003 OS is locked to the HAL on the original hardware, what the guy told you regarding repair install is partly true, the key thing to this is your chipset and your IDE/RAID drivers, if the two hardware are similar or identical, you will have a much better chance, but as from your experience so far, they are not.
What I normally do is to strip out the original drivers before moving the drive/OS out, but as you dont have much to lose, you might as well do a repair install and see how lucky you are.

Why don't you just install Virtual PC or VMWare and run BOTH XP and Server 2003 (XP on the physical hardware and Server 2003 in a VM - 2003 is not really meant to be used as a workstation - it can be done, but it's not meant to be.

You may not legally be able to do that either if you only have an OEM license to use Windows Server 2003. You will nedd to re-install to get Windows to work in different hardware. Only enterprise grade operating systems like Linux can have the hardware changed and leave the operating system running without a re-install.

No solution, this is like trying to put a semi-truck's engine in a minivan.

It sounds like you bought pirated software. Get your money back or cut your loses and BUY the software through legal channels.
