I am a Christian who was raised in Baptist and Southern Baptist churches. As I got older, I attended Nazarene, Non-denominational and Methodist churches. I also have attended Assembly of God churches. Honestly? The choices of churches I have attended had absolutely nothing to do with the denomination itself, but with how what that particular church's teachings measured up to the Bible and how its members treated not only one another, but treated those who were visiting as well. Find a church that preaches the Bible and is accepting and welcoming to everyone and practices true Christian love, and you will be happy, no matter what denomination that church is.

I'd recommend a non-Denominational church, as they tend to not be so caught up in the politics and just teach The Bible. Considering that the specific beliefs and worship structure vary from church to church, there's not really a website that I can direct you to.

However, I can tell you this -- when searching for a church, I recommend that you visit several different churches of several different denominations. Something can sound very appealing on paper and not be what you're looking for in practice. Good luck.

Instead of recommending a specific denomination, I recommend that you study the New Testament objectively, and notice in particular the book of Acts and what happened in the early church, then find a church that is like what you read about in Acts. There are a few out there like that.

I'd say a non-denominational religion. The major denominations tend to emphasize things to an extreme point, like those who are not baptized are NOT Christians, that those who do not have communion are NOT Christians, etc. Basically the denominational churches tend to say, "whoever is not a member of our denomination is going to hell". I like a denomination that considers Catholics, Baptists, Presbyterians, and so on all brethren.

Personally I grew up in a Nazarine church, I have been to baptist, assemblies of God, pentacostle, methodist, calvaries, etc. Each one varied on their approaches as some were more stern than other...(bible thumping) ... it wasn't until I closed and locked my front door for 3 days and sat quietly and red the entire new testament, (I underlined it as I went) that I discovered, CHURCH is all the people that believe that our Precious precious Jesus died on the cross for our sins...period. He was meticulously merciful, and precious and kind and everything perfect... when he was with the deciples, whatever your problem, you could run to him...no matter what...ANY PROBLEM... He always had the perfect precious answer to any pious or tender question. He was so beautiful and loving. LOVING, LOVING, LOVING.....and it is still the same that you can run to HIM.

Yes, each of the churches I've been to constantly revolve around certain "things", either should you be baptised or what not... You will do just fine in any of these that I have named and I am sure there are more... but these are the ones that led my life to where it is now... by teaching me the number one principle... Jesus is everything and salvation is only obtained by him... PERIOD... Let his peace teach you to give peace and mercy, and thus recieve HIS just the same!!!!!!!!!

i have tried to figure that out on my own. i've tried to go from church to church, from denomination to denomination, trying to find out which one was ''most biblical.'' i have found that there are things i like about every church, and there are things i DON'T like about every church. the bible confirms the fact that no one church is complete in their teachings in the book of revelations, when Jesus addresses the seven churches of the province of asia. if that were the case, God would have told us something like ''thou shalt be a baptist.'' the most important thing is to study the bible, and be aware of what it teaches, so you will not believe in false doctrines. personally, in all my searching, i have found that the missouri synod lutheran church is the best for me, although the sermons have a tendency to be a bit dry.

catholics, mormons, and jehovah's witnesses all have a tendency to claim that they are ''the one true church,'' but truth be told, there is none, other than the church of God. that's not a denomination. that's an invisible church. it's made up of passionate followers of Christ: baptists, methodists, pentecostals, whoever. personally, i would tell you to find a church service you enjoy, and whose doctrine is biblical, but i would also tell you there's nothing wrong with jumping around from church to church. different denominations focus on different parts of the gospel, and i have found that i have become a more ''complete'' christian by visiting different churches and gaining new perspectives. denomination is a small part of the big picture.

I would STRONGLY recommend what are known as the "Open Bible Churches"; and Iive in Iowa, I'm not sure if they are outside of Iowa...maybe just the Midwest? All I know is that they are sometimes labeled as "Pentecostal" but the most important feature to look for in a church as a babe in CHRIST is one that PLACES JESUS AS SENIOR PASTOR! You know, one that preaches weekly directly from the KJV Bible, and one who believes that God's WORD is HOLY, INERRANT, INFALLIBLE and our LIFE SOURCE! Without FOCUS on HIS written word, (John 1:1) we see not Christ, because as John 1:1 says, the WORD=GOD, the WORD of GOD is Christ, and Christ JESUS and the Holy Spirit have ALWAYS BEEN, since before the foundation of the world. The church one is seeking should also place a STRONG foundation and importance upon WORSHIP and PRAISE; because seasoned Christians KNOW, that GOD "INHABITS" the praises of HIS people!" I have LOVED the First Church of the Open Bible, here in CR, Iowa for a long time, and those are the things that I find VERY important for a new Christian to be involved in! GOD BLESS YOU, and...good QuEsTiOn!!!
In Christ Eternal Love,
^7^

Assemblies of God; check out the following web site: www.ag.org, also check out the web site for Today's Pentecostal Evangel: www.tpe.ag.org.

We believe: I. the Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16). II. there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19); . . . There are eleven more tenets of our faith listed in the Evangel; if you are sincere in your desire to find a church and cannot access the above web sites, and/or want more info about our beliefs, please e-mail me.

PS: Please don't look for a "perfect" church! I did that at one time; but after I joined, it was no longer "perfect"! Our church is a hospital for *sinners*, *not* a rest-home for "saints"!

There is only One Church. God dose not concern Himself with man invented "denominations"...
All who come to God in The Way He prescribes will receive His free gift of Salvation. Those become part of The Body of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. Those are the ones of The True Christian Faith. Only those of The Church will enter Heaven

I fellowship with a small concervative Baptist congregation. I would recomend you find a small. less than 150. bible teaching congrigation within the Baptist general area... Concervative, Bible Baptist, Calvery Baptist... I will give you my Web Site address... on my statements page you will find my Doctrinal Statement. If you can find a congrigation which will agree, generaly, with my statement then you will probably have found a place to begin your learning... but neither I nore they can "prove" God to you... the proof you need can only come from God... but if they agree with my statement then they wil be williing to help..... feel free to look over the site. You will see it is just me and not some "orginization"... if you have a question you can contact me from the site.
http://www.mikesfaith.com

The reason I recomend a small congrigation is that you can get to know people and they can get to know you... it often takes time to find a church home... and more than one visit... and you need to get involved... in a small congregation there is alway some need for someone to do something... help out in some way... and a good congrigation is more family than people who just meet on Sunday...

FYI... The "catholics" were not, and are not, "the first"or only "religion" and that claim is not an honest recomendation... While there are some in the Catholic who have received God's free gift of Salvation... they have found The Way to God outside the teaching of the RCs... priests are actualy forbidden to teach The Truth of Salvation... so most RCs have never heard The Truth of The Salvation Message.

I even have been a member of the church for in basic terms over 19 years.
