Sydney is soooo expensive. If you are mega rich, you'll have a good time there. It is a cool place and has great unis. I'd recommend Melbourne as you are probably used to their type of climate (it's pretty much on the same lattitude as Auckland), it has awesome universities (Monash, world renound, beautiful grounds and very prestigous), great public transport and has a lower cost of living (plus very cultural great for Journo major). I live in Queensland, You could got to Brisbane Universities. They are also very good (UQ [beautiful grounds and quite prestigous], QUT, Griffith). The weather up here is noticibly warmer, but not as scorching as Cairns. You'll fry there in Summer, Spring and Autumn! and be restricted to airconditioned zones only. From Brisbane, a short 40 minute drive will have you on the sunny Gold Coast with Bond University (private and very exy) and Griffith University, and in between Gold Coast and Brisbane is another Griffith University. The Gold Coast has shocking public transport, is an expensive place to live and rent. It'll be good for a holiday though. I should know, I live here!

G'day
There are only 39 universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and they are tightly controlled, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content.
To find out the course that you are taking and where it is offered, I suggest you to go to IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au). IDP is an organisation that gives information to international students who wants to continue their study in Australia. Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification (in English and original language). The process will take abt 2-3weeks, depending on the time of the year.
Hope this helps. Good luck on your studies :)

ok so this has been a dream of yours... well sorry to say but my answer is wake up the other answers gave links whereas I give facts of live first figure out what it is you want to study then you can research where you will study then as to the "not exactly poor" well that means nothing having a home worth whatever as I presume it is a family home and not cash in the bank... then you say "don't have the fees to pay off uni"...!!!... well sorry to bust your dream again but in Australia university is expensive and for foreign students even more expensive and yes you do need to pay and pay for years plus you need money for books travel food life and accommodation even if it is a relative (perhaps)... but not only do you need financial support to get through a degree course you also need emotional support...!!! please think carefully all I have said then if you really really want to move here fine but first get an education get a qualification then you would be able to get a job and support yourself

If you are doing journalism, the top two schools are Charles Sturt University at Bathurst and Macquarie University in Sydney. There are plenty of great universities elsewhere but those are the top two for journalism.

If you don't have your own transport the public 'sun' bus system is great.
