That I am an imperfect being who cannot see True Reality no matter how hard I would LIKE to be able to see it.

Unfortunately, I think that kids often believe what their parents or other adults who are important to them tell them to believe. Adults, too, often choose to believe things that are as improbable as The Flying Spaghetti Monster, without taking the time or effort to determine whether those beliefs are true or fantasies.

Excellent question!!

Just because everyone believes what they want to believe, doesn't mean what they believe is good, or true, cause some people could believe that 5^3 = 15, but it doesn't, the truth is the it = 125, so you should tell them the truth and all will be fine, because if you do not condemn, you will not be condemned.

Don't think the fist bit is correct. Kids believe what their parents brainwash them with.
I want to believe that the world would be more tolerant, kinder and safer if everyone adopted the scientific method and used it solely for benign purposes.

I believe that children are taught either by sight, hearing of others actions and words which results in what they believe in. As adults we are a result of those teachings but can decide what is fiction and nonfiction. Is there a Santa 'Clause?

There was a time that I really wanted to believe there was a god, but I just couldn't. It doesn't apply to everyone. Some of us have to follow the evidence.

I agree, but I'm not sure that we consciously know what we want to believe, what we don't, or the difference between the two.
