my husband is in Iraq right now and we do not talk on the telephone that much because its to late at night to walk to the telephones, so we talk almost everyday on yahoo messanger. I also got a web cam for myself and mailed him one so we can still see each other. The connection there is sometimes really slow but its so worth it. Good luck to you and your son. You will be able to stay in limited email contact with him. I say limited because he obviously will not have access to a computer all the time. Direct video is doubtful for security reasons. Pictures are permitted as long as security is not breached or compromised.

This is a long way from the only option we had was writing letters or mailing audio tapes with a 5-7 day normal mail time.

nope. that would fall under OPSEC and PERSEC. at most, you may be given access to the FRG's email and you could get some information that way, but most of it is not given outr over the phone or the web, strictly in person.

additionally, forces deployed overseas can no longer access myspace, youtube and public accessemails such as Yahoo or hotm,auil on gov't computers, so unless he brings hi sown private laptop and pays for internet access, you won;t even get that.

No but if are both members of like Yahoo or MSN messenger you can still keep in touch with him. I kept in touch with my family via Yahoo while over there and my brother is now doing the same.
