Someone is afraid of not getting a second chance. They think that good things tend to fade...they'd like a bit of permanence to take hold, perhaps.

It is really hard to say ..... but It similarly mean that something you have is there but *that person don't know if things will be the same because what you have to hold on to in the world no matter what it fades away so, all that is special or catches that person's eye is always going to be different then the way it was...

I love that song :) Fuel is cool.
Basically, the present is, well, present, and it'll fade away. All that shimmers does, too, and that usually means stuff that isn't quite there. Like feelings.
