I have barnacles on the stack now and I wanted to scrape them off and repaint the stack to protect it.

My real estate agent and inspector called these protuberances growing on the outside of the pipe "barnacles". I am talking about the cast iron stack that runs from my bathrooms into the basement and into the ground.

I will hope this is a legitimate Q, even if an inane one.

First of all "Barnacles" exist UNDER Salt Water.

Second: Have you ever assumed that painting under water was similar to walking on water?

I dont really get this....but if you want to paint a bottom of a boat there is special paint for that.
