My friend recently found out her boyfriend of 4 years has been married the whole time they have been dating. She wants answers and her circle of friends is discouraging her from seeking these answers.

He had his cake and ate it too.
As much as I would want that guy to get whats coming to him, you have to add to the mix whether or not he has kids,not to mention what it would do to his wife.
What I suggest, is dropping a note to HIM PERSONALLY, telling him that sometime soon, you just might make a phonecall home, to his wife.
I guarantee you that will shrink his sphincter.
Whether you do it or not is your choice, but if kids were involved, i'd think twice, other wise, let his wife know what a POS she married.

Your question in bold (the first one) and the rest of the text (regular typeface) contradict one another. The first says "ex" and the second says "boyfriend of 4 years" making it seem like they are still together.
If he is an "ex" and lied, she should let it go. They aren't together anymore and that's a good thing because he's a liar no matter what.
If they are still together "boyfriend and girlfriend for 4 years and counting," she should immediately confront him and question him about what is and has been going on all this time.
In either scenario, if this information is true, he is a person who is deceptive. He cannot be trusted.

It sounds to me like an excuse to contact him. He lied to have his cake and eat it too, that's obvious. Tell your friend to walk away, she got played, it's a shame it happened but it's over, let go. Frankly, I find it hard to believe in 4 years she didn't have some idea this guy had a wife. There are always some signs and she chose to ignore them, now she is paying the price.

What is he going to say "cos I am a scumbag?" You gotta do your homework on these things, and if he was married the signs would have all been there for her, she just didnt want to see them. Now if he was seperated the whole time that is a different story, but I didnt get that idea from what you wrote. But what is she looking for, a good enough excuse to still want to be with him?

If they're still together she has every right to ask,,, if they are not together anymore she should just see him for the dog he is and keep it moving...
