You absolutely DO NOT need a corset. Your ribs stick out because you're thin. Put on a little weight.

Over time, a corset is able to reshape the ribcage. This is called tightlacing. I would highly recommend getting a custom made corset since this will be the most comfortable way of wearing one since it would conform to YOUR body. If you plan on reshaping the ribs, when you first start off wearing it may be a bit uncomfortable since there will be pressure on your ribs. Don't get the urge to lace down too much too quickly. Wearing a corset is all about endurance and the longer you can wear one (i.e. up to 23 hours/day w/ 1 hour for bathing), the more of a permanent effect it will have versus tightening it down far for a short period. If you go this route, learn all you can and start off with only wearing it 2 hours per day laced down 2 inches from your waist measurement.

See Reference Link for a diagram of what happens to ribs over years of wear.

not necessarily. depending on how much flex is in your ribs would depend if a corset could mold them. And to make any perm/semi-perm changes in your bone structure you would have to wear a corset 23/7 for years (research Cathy Jung and Annalai)
