Every department I've worked for have had Mag Lite 5-cell rechargeable flashlights available to officers. The charge lasts a long time and they are very very sturdy.
Many police officers will also carry a smaller light on their belt. Most of the guys i work with Carry a mini maglite of some sort.
Mag Lite company as a whole are very Emergency Service friendly and offer good deals to Emergency Service professionals. They back their product and are great when it comes to correcting problems or repairing items.
I had a problem with my mini mag 6 months after purchasing it and they sent me a replacement and included a return box so I had my replacement before sending out my broken flashlight. How many companies would do that?

I'm not an officer and I've never asked, but the flashlights I have seen officers carry look a lot like the Mag-Lite I carry.

capitalcru has me convinced though a number of his answers and a question he asked today, that he wouldn't know an officer if he was being arrested. The price he listed for flashlights is ridiculous. A Mag-Lite runs about half that amount.

mag light is the favorite, many like the re-chargable, they come (or at least back 10 years ago when I got my last set) they came with a life time warranty,

But often the officer carries what ever the department gives them if they furnish them

in the Ohio State Highway Patrol we use Sylvania Bx29 Nightvision You have to buy them from the OSp and are 79 dollars. I will fax you the order form. The cheapest one is 69 but it is not real bright
