I'm having the same problem with my 11mth german shepard he has to follow me around everywhere I cant even go to the toilet without him waiting outside the door.
I've heard it can also be a dominance thing as they have to know where you are, and I think it is as far as my dog is concerened, but good luck.

Yeah course you can.
Try - putting her in her bed firmly say "stay" then take one step backwards if she stays reward her with a treat or something she sees as a reward. Take another step backwards and again reward. Keep doing this a little bit a day. It wont happen over night but it will work. Once you can go out of her sight and she will stay there praise her lots and lots. Dont ever smack or get up her in her bed, it has to be a good and rewarding place. Once she stays, try this - stand a couple of steps away and then say "bed" and point to her bed, if she hops in praise, keep repeating a little each day and eventually you should be able to tell her anywhere in the house and she will go and get in there and then say "stay" and she should do that. Good Luck!! Just dont give up.

Yes you could teach your old dog some tricks. If you have problems offer it some treats, but NEVER homemade food.
Buy a bag of treats at a supermarket pharmacy or anywhere. If that doesn't work out try obedience school. I did that and my dog has 10 years and he does a lot of things

You can teach her, but it won't be easy. Get a book on how to train your dog from the library and study it. Then put the suggestions into practice. I wish you all the best!

Is there anything that could keep her occupied in one places for a few minutes, like a hollow bone filled with peanut butter? If you can put her in her bed and keep her distracted while you walk away, over time you might be able to convince her she doesn't need to be right next to you at all times.
