Puppies are pretty uncoordinated, and sometimes try to get going too fast and trip all over themselves and anything in their way, including stairs. But you don't give us enough information--does your dog do this all the time, some of the time, or does he fall down besides on the stairs? There are neurological problems that can affect coordination and balance and ear, muscle, and joint problems that can as well. If he's running and gets tangled up in his own feet, no problem, just limit his access to stairs until he's older so he doesn't hurt himself. If he's falling down all the time or flopping over in the floor, you'd better take him to the vet. Good luck.

Puppies dont have the co-ordination to go up or down stairs. They will learn after a while but its better to help them down and not let them fall down.

It's dangerous! A young pups bones are very soft and developing and a puppy should not be given the opportunity to fall down a bunch of stairs. You can cause the pup to have serious issues later on in life. Wobblers disease, Hip displasia, earlu arthritis.. Be careful and keep your pup from harming himself.

It's very common. Your puppy probably hasn't been intoduced to stairs b efore, so it is still very clumsy and doen't know how to go down yet without falling. Just give it time, it will work.

Puppies are, of course, just immature dogs...whose coordination needs to grow with them. It could just possibly be in the clumbsy puppy stage. Pad your stairs with old carpet and see if your pup outgrows this clumbsy stage. There could also be a neurological problem, or your pup has poor eyesight. Give it a few more weeks to see it his/her coordination catches up with him/her....if not....be sure to see a vet and have your pup's eyes checked and some neurological testing done. Best Wishes, Janiah

What??? Pups cant go down stair by them selves. They dont have the cordination to do that. You have to help them down or carry them down.

Yes it's very common to have them fall down the stairs. But your not supposed to let them. I hope the little guys alright!

Yes, if you let them. They are growing so fast, and can be clumsy. Or they are just rushing. My 8 year old dog still falls down the stairs when he tries to go too fast.
