In the Old Testament, God walked and talked with folks.., it may appear that He just had favorite folks, but there were only a few people who would listen (can you imagine that?), then He began to talk to the men called prophets and told them to talk to groups of people, to some "leaders" and He always reserved the right to speak to kings and rulers and prophets in dreams and visions. The Old Testament prophets were actually those who spoke to the people what God said to them to say.
Then, the Jews had decisions made through the High Priest who went into the Temple to the Holy Place to get God's instructions for the people.
It is not written exactly like you want to read it, but if you will read the book of Acts of the Apostles, you will see that God answered Peter and the prayers of his friends by bringing an earthquake and sending an angel to get him out of jail. When some of the church leaders met together to pray and the place where they were was "shaken" and they knew they had comformation.
In Acts 9: There were miracles, in chapter 10, there was answer by a vision; it is told us and written that we are to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit so we will have that "inner witness"/ the Spirit of Truth within us so we can discern what spirit we are being influenced by and hearing from. All the people who followed the "way" were clear that their prayers were answered and followed the Apostles' preaching about Jesua and they had enough sense to get their instructions through the mouth of the preachers. In chapter 10 also, we are told that Peter; of course filled with the Holy Spirit used his "perception" "verse 34" and as he spoke the word of God to them, the HOly Spirit fell on them also.., and through the Holy Spirit, we are guided from the INSIDE. God can't opposoe Himself and we will be in agreement with His decisions when we are following Him in this manner.
Read Acts 11: 15- 17.
We hear from God through the Bible, through preaching, through prophets and teachers, through our own open spirit to the Holy Spirit and just that "inner knowing" after we pray according to the Bible instructions as HOW to pray according to God's written word. In Acts 13: verses 1 - 3, it is clear tht as they "ministered to the Lord", which says to me they sung praise songs and praised Him and didn't stop to eat; "fasting"; "THE HOLY SPIRIT SAID".., I believe He "said" the same way He says to us, through someone who is gifted with prophecy, or word of wisdom, or word of knowledge. I doubt He spoke out loud audibly like over a loud speaker to the group, but all things are possible with God. Usually, someone hears about your prayer and will suggest a scripture that may apply to your circumstances and you will just "know" if it is your answer. If you go to church, the lesson from Sunday School or the preaching will speak to your problem or situation.
Jesus didn't tell us to pray and hope and wait for an audible word from the Father..., He did say, "Ask and it WILL BE given, seek and YOU WILL find, knock and IT WILL BE opened to you..., now you may have to get someone else to pray with you while you both ask in agreement, or seek by studying the scriptures just on a hunch, or knock on someone else who is further down the road than you to get something opened up to you... and He says as you read that scripture in Matthew 7, you will see He was serious by telling us that even WE know how to answr your children, how much more does God know how to answer HIS children; and this chapter ends up talking about using wisdom!
After prayer to God, I got an answer from a TV show that I KNEW was the answer!! So don't worry about HOW it's answered, just know that He wants to give you what you ask unless it is to harm or hurt another.., it MUST be according to His word. Find a scripture that says your answer and remind Him of His words and claim the answer, in the name of Jesus!
Are you His child?
Answers are easy if you are listening.

While God can and does speak audibly to people, He speaks primarily through His Word; but sometimes also through the Holy Spirit to our consciences, through circumstances, and through other people. By applying what we hear to the truth of Scripture, we can learn to recognize His voice.

Samuel heard the voice of God, but didn't recognize it until he was instructed by Eli in 1 Samuel 3:1-10... Gideon had a physical revelation from God and he still doubted what he had heard, to the point of asking for a sign, not once, but three times.

Hebrews 8:10-12

"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
No longer will a man teach his neighbor,
or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,'
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more." "

you could go with the rational explanation that there is no god..... The original inventors of religion were looking for an explanation of the things they saw in front of them and formulated theories As the theories passed down through generations, the theories turned to truths, and leaders corrupted the truths to benefit themselves claiming god spoke to them (or were doing some drugs which were much more common and acceptable at that time, and THOUGHT they saw god). Stop letting the church spoon feed you information, and think for yourself. The bible says moses lived for 900 years. Doubt that.

Romans 12:2 "...be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." A Christian is molded from within by the power of God. Through the Bible God speaks to us and renews our mind.

I aggre with Sebastion, and I don't think that humans had much of a language in Eden. 'Death' obviously wasn't in their vocabulary.
