......a man lives on the 12th floor, he take the elevator all the way down to the 1st floor to go to work...coming back from work he take the elevator to the 5th and goes up the stairs to 12th floor. why does he take the elevator only to the 5th floor???

BECAUSE he's too short..he can probably reach up to 5 so he take the elevator up to 5th floor and walks up the rest...
as for comming down..1st floor, #1 he can reach, so he take it down all the way/....

This man is indeed a little person, not however in a wheel chair!! (stairs would be impossible). He presses the button for the 5th floor because he is the only one on the elevator and it is he highest button he can reach. He is stuck with walking the rest of the way up. Won't someone please watch and push the button for him? It is just once a day!!

He is a 'midget'. Going down the elevator is easy in the morning b/c he can reach the buttons, but coming home to go up the elevator is harder.

Maybe he needs the exercise. I often take stairs instead of elevator, even if only a few flights out of a lot of them, like the riddle man. Not much of an answer for you, though--sorry.

bcoz the man can't reach the button for 12th floor... he can only reach until 5th... however, we must assume that there are no other people in the elevator with him, bcoz he can always ask for help in pressing the right button... :-)

it might got broken when it he was still at work. on his way to the elevator.. a sign read "Elevator broken, will only work till the 5th floor". so he rides the elevator till the 5th ans uses the stairs...

The man is a midget (or whatever other politically correct term you want) or he is in a wheelchair. Either way, he is only tall enough to hit the button for the fifth floor. when he is leaving, he can hit the first floor button because it is low enough!
