Big family occasion... I want to get the look right. what do you suggest?

I think floor length dresses are way too much for someone to wear to a wedding...so something at the knees or a little below them would look nice...and maybe try getting something that goes with her color scheme of her wedding...you can always dress up a cute casual dress with hairstyle and a little jewelry. But simple can look very classy and nice.

Well, when and where is the wedding.
I would say you should definetely wear a cocktail type dress. If the wedding is in the evening, you can wear black. I just attended a wedding recently and I saw about 7 people wearing black. I was too. It was fine, everyone looked apprioate for the occasion.
If it's during the day, so with light pinks, blues, etc If you can't find anything in those colors, black is again fine. Just dress it up for day.

Maybe try a knee length dress. Go for something that's modest, but not too formal. If it's soon (this summer) try wearing some bright colors! Have fun at the wedding

I'd go with a red, black or green dress. These are sexy colors that show you are confident and warm. Wear a dress that's not too revealing yet cute. Something that's slightly past the knee. Hope this helps.

Just wear a nice summer dress. Not too formal. Try to match whatever style your boyfriend is wearing... Or just ask they might applaud you for trying ....

Wear a nice summer dress with sandals (heels are optional).
Not a formal dress but more of a sundress.
