Some people have a lot of luck taking Benadryl. If you try it, start out with 25 mg before going to bed. If 25 mg doesn't work you can try 50 mg. Read the label first and follow the directions!

If Benadryl doesn't work for you, then see your doctor for some of the new prescription meds that are supposedly non-habit forming.

I know this is hard. I've had it all my life. I go to bed at ten or eleven. I'm up by about two. Sometimes if I'm really tired, I'll sleep 'till three.
I'm retired now so. I have a woodworking shop set up in the basement, I have many projects I work on. I also make quilts on one side. I work on the PC, Yahoo answers, for instance. A very good place to kill time.
If you work and have to get up, it's a bummer. I've been there. I started having two jobs, that worked for me. I worked one job part time, drove cab. worked out real well.
Hope you have some luck. I do know, when your body requires it, you'll get the sleep you need.

I also went back to school, got three more years of college in this way though the years. Good luck

I have the same problem. if I get 1 1/2 - 2 hrs a night I'm lucky. I tried over-the-counter stuff like tylenol PM and benedryl and that didn't work. I went to my Dr. and he gave me Ambien and that worked the opposite, kept me awake all night. Then he gave me a script for Elavil, that seems to work pretty good. I don't sleep a full 8 hrs., but I can get at least 6 hrs. so I'll probably stay with that. sometimes I put a real boring movie in the computer, and that makes me a little sleepy. Hope I helped a little.

Sleep in total darkness.

That's because in total darkness, it promotes the secretion of your hormone called Melatonin, which is a hormone that regulates and controls your sleep. The hormone is produced by your pineal gland.

The more Melatonin you've, the longer, deeper and sounder you sleep.

Try also taking 2 tablets of calcium and magnesium before bedtime. They're said to calm your mind and therefore you fall asleep easily.

Don't upset your sleep rythym/sleep cycle as this will disrupt your brain which has got to re-adjust to the change. This means that if you sleep at 10 pm and wake up at 7 am, do the same everyday....including weekends and public holidays.....

Exercise for at least 30 mins per session, 3-4 times per week, to create fatigue so that your mind takes the cue that you need rest and therefore need to sleep.

Well, then, either get to the doctor for prescription sleep aids, or try MELATONIN--an over-the-counter sleep supplement, that even works for people with jet lag--and those who work rotating shifts.
