Jesus founded the Catholic Church? That's news to me. The church as stated in the bible is the number of Christians, not a denomination or building.

The Catholic Church claims that Jesus founded The Church as he commanded Peter to go out spread the gospel. The Church considers Peter the first Pope.

The word "catholic" is never mentioned in the Bible. There were no denominations back then. Catholics believe that Peter was, in a sense, the first pope. (See John 21:15-17, when Jesus told Peter directly to feed his flock. Also see the other references posted by Toweleiban Barbie)

If you want to see what the Catholic Chruch says on that matter, go to your public library and pick up a catechism.

But remember, in one of Paul's letters in the New Testament, he instructs Christians not to fight amongst ourselves. We should all focus on what Christians have in common, our faith in Jesus Christ. We should still have open discussions about differences between denominations, but that should not be the most important thing.

Oh, and in response to wise44's answer... the first half of the Hail Mary are the exact words that Elizabeth greeted Mary with. And by the way, Catholics who put Mary in the center of their faith are misled. Jesus should be the absolute center of the faith. We can ask Mary to pray for us, but we should not worship her or any saint.

The Catholic Church was established by Jesus with his words spoken in Matthew 16. Jesus asked his disciples "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" The disciples then offered various answers - "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." But the question that Jesus then asked was crucial: "But who do you say that I am?"

The answer provided by Simon Peter set in motion the formation of the Catholic Church by Jesus. "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." With this answer, Jesus established the Catholic Church with Simon Peter designated the first Pope.

"Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

"For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father." His knowledge of Jesus was not the reason for Peter's confession to the true identity but it was the fact that it had been revealed to him by God. In the words of Jesus gives Peter his new name - "The Rock". A foundation on which his Church will be built.
Around or about 45 AD, Peter went to Rome and from there lead the Catholic Church. As of today, there have been 263 Popes in direct succession to Peter. The position of Pope was established by Christ and the office has been maintained in an apostolic manner since the time of Christ. Although the Church has fragmented since the time of Christ with various leadership centers emerging, the apostolic line of succession in the Church is seated in Rome until this very day.

Catholic Church is the Church established by Jesus and has maintained a clear line of apostolic leadership to this very day. The Church has celebrated the sacraments and worshiped the Lord in essentially the same way since the time of Christ.

John 21:15-25, and Luke 22:32, and Matthew 24:14.
But especially Matthew 16:17-19.
Notice in each, Christ is investing Peter. Peter was crucified (upside down) on Nero's orders. He was the first 'pope' which is a honorific due to being an elder rather than a 'father'.

Jesus did not personally establish the Catholic church. The Holy Bible says nothing of the sort, and the Bible is complete truth (the one Christians use). Where did you hear that Jesus founded the Catholic church???

do you recall, jesus saying ON THIS ROCK..i build my church?
well this is where, catholic pride started..and totally misunderstood the spiritual content of the word..they were thinking carnal.physical..vs spiritual..if you recall.the disciples all said..you are the christ..son of GOD..ect..but when peter spirit spoke..YE are the CHRIST..JESUS saw the LIGHT in the WORDS peter spoke..
and so on that REVELATION FROM ABOVE (god gave it) JESUS said..ON THIS ROCK>>I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH..CHRIST is a SPIRIT..not just a physical being..we IN HIM>.are a SPIRIT being LED by the Spirit of GOD.
so on REVELATION..I will build my CHURCH.
catholic church and many churches since then..were ALL carnal all the way..till spirit of truth..of love..of power..show up here and there..when penecost showed up .in 1900's in europe and here..there..is where the spirit of POWER AND FIRE..that action of apostle book talks about.
anyway..so what your looking for is..in the gospel.it doesn't say it..directly.but..that is there..inpretation..of a physical church..and remember why christians left europe..they left because of governmental power behind the church..forcing religion..and high taxes..no allow to read the bible..heresay in their ritual.and still there too..on and on.

Probably not, because Jesus is Lord not Mary the virgin. The Catholics focus too much on Mary than Jesus. Its hail Jesus not hail Mary.Remember the Caligula days, very pagan and Roman Catholic.
