Having it on your reports twice does hurt.

What you would be able to do depends on who is reporting.

If the account was sold or assigned to a collection agency then both the original creditor and collection agency can legally report.
But, if the collection agency is reporting, the original creditor MUST report a zero balance.

If the account is being reported by two collection agencies than that is a violation and you have a legal right to dispute them. Only one collection agency (the legal holder of the account) can report.

If the original creditor is reporting it twice then file a dispute with the CRA's.

You have a legal right to have accurate reports.
If the account showing is from the original creditor and a collection agency and is being reported with inaccuracies you have a right to dispute the inaccuracies with the CRA's.

Though if you are still within the collecting SOL for your state and the collection agency has not been currently active in persuing the account, disputing may cause them to start.

You might click on my profile and do some reading in the links I have listed - to the FCRA, FDCPA, etc. There is also a link where you can find the collecting SOL for your state.

You need to 1) call the company and ask them to remove the 2nd posting. 2) dispute the 2nd transaction. You can do that on the website you viewed your credit report on.
