I have a 2006 F-150 with a V6 gas engine (I didn't get the V8 because of gas prices), its a good truck and I like it.
The only thing that I don't like about the is, ther's no diesel option. I know Ford has small 6 cylinder diesel engines, they use them in Vans in europe.
So why don't we have the option in Canada.
I know what people are most likely thinking, If you wanted a diesel you should of got a F-250 or F-350 and the answer is
I don't need a big 6.4L engine why pay for power you don't really need (I need a truck, but I don't need that much truck)

Answerer 1 got it right. We are finally getting low-sulfur diesel in the states. It has been held up by the trucking industry because it is a little more expensive to produce. Diesels are more fuel efficent, but they pollute a lot more. Low sulfur fuels burn cleaner and hopefully will allow more diesel small trucks to appear in the states.

Ford is currently working on a v-6 diesel that is being engineered in house due to the design flaws that were associated with the international this was originally slated for the 08 model year however, for what hopes to be a flawless launch of this new engine it has been pushed back to 2009 which will also include a redesigned f-150

Before I retired from the super duty truck plant the first of this year, I noticed that we were getting a bunch of new model parts marked as 150's. The smallest we build has been the 250 through the F-550's. The rumor was that Ford was going to make a 6 cyl diesel in future years for the F-150. I can't say for sure, but I hear it is in the works, in the next few years. good luck.

Reading one of the magazines at work, I believe it was March's Hot Rod magazine, don't quote me on that one, Ford is appairently coming out with a small deisel for the F-150 series. It's been a few months since I've read the article, so I don't remember much of it. I just remember a deisel in an F-150. I'ed buy one when/if they come out. I would try to search the Hot Rod Magazine archives for more information, or talk to a Ford dealer. There is serious thought going into this.

There was going to be a 4.5 v-6 in the F-150 but Ford scrapped it when the 6.0 which the engine is based on turned out to be a pile of crap.
Rumors are when the new body style f-150 comes out in 2008 as a 09 model, it will offer a diesel..said to be a 4.4 built in house.
Other rumors are of smaller motors built on the same architecture..... but all will be 2008 or later...

Just this year low sulfur fuel became available that is what diesels in Europe use. Now the Ford question Have you talked to Dearborn MI. lately? And actually the small V-8 doesn't get that bad gas mileage plus it has passing power.

Deisel not Diesel and ford dont make good deisels the powerstrokes are good if you have the money to spend fixing it. Cat, Perkins, and Cummings are to big for a F-150.
Just at Dodge and see how big the cummings is, its a lot bigger than a F-150
