Just throw some soft tissues into the cage. It will shred it up and make a bed for itself. You don't need to make one for it.

I would sugjest you take an empty Klenex(r) box,cut off the plastic flaps, and lay peices of an old (but clean) rag out in front of it.You could also use crumpled up or shreded news paper instead.
Another thing you could do is take a stirophome bowl(cut the side of the bowl down in a half circle) an pick some grass from your lawn.Take an empty toilet paper role and put the end of it in the half circle so it doesn't slide around, but forms a tunnel leading from the bedding into the bowl.
Next place the grass in a small pile in the bowl.
Find a clean but old rag and drape in over the top of the bowl and the end of the toilet paper role.
It should look kind of like a tent with a tunnel instead of a door way.
If I were you you I would also push the bowl down into the bedding so it is even with the bedding in the cage(or as even as you can get it).
You should have one happy hamster.
I hope my answer helps you.

the first answer is spot on. hamsters go crazy for soft shredded tissue, they will carry it off and make their own bed. they love it.

If you are wanted to create a private sleeping area for the hamster without buying one, cut out a hole in a tissue box so he can make his nest in there. they do like privacy. My hamster has a large 3 storey cage, and he has a private sleeping area for each level, so he swaps and chooses all the time where to sleep which is rather amusing, if not confusing to watch!!

You could make a little makeshift hammock just get a piece of cloth and tie it in a corner of the cage about a half and inch off of the floor of the cage. Thats what my local pet store told me to do and my hamster seems to like it.

Hello.

First leave a toilet roll centre in the cage.

Then you can give your hamster 2 pages of clean toilet paper or fresh cotton wool. Make sure there are no cosmetic fragrance on it.

Do not be alarmed if they start to stuff / tear / shredd the papers/wool into their mouth, they are merely getting their scent and would use it to stuff their own bed later.

They prefer to sleep in close and tight dark spaces.

Good luck!

This is what I do with my hamster :

I give him cotton balls (not cotton pads). He won't eat it don't worry !!!
He starts tearing it with his claws and teeth, it's so cute !
Then he brings it in a little corner of his cage, and will use it as a nest, or sometimes, he sleeps under it !!! Again, soooo cute !!! LOL
You can try that with your hamster, mabye he'll do the same thing !!!

You could use a small carboard box, making sure he's able to get in of course. Then fill it with shredded, or cut up paper, and old faceclothes. You need to be cautious that he doesn't attempt to eat any of the cloth though. Every hamster is different.

Stuff an old sock with cotton balls, line the inside with a lenth of cardboard slightly bigger than your hamster, you can even stuff the sock with the same bedding that you put in your hammies home.

It's not a big deal, he just changed where he sleeps. My rat used to sleep in a tube all the time, for 2 years straight without fail, then on day she started sleeping on the corner. It just happens, dosent really have a reason. If there was a reason, possibley, the corner is warmer then in the iglu thing.

If you already have a cage for it, you can put in shredded newspaper and your hamster will do the rest.
