There are plenty of cheap little electronic devices out there that show how far you are off tune so you can adjust it until it's in tune. Or, if you won't to tine it by ear, heres how:
Assuming the Low E String is tuned correctly, you can play it on the fifth fret and the fifth string open and twist until they sound the same. Press string 5 on fre5 five for string four, press string four for string three, press string three on fret 4 for string two, and press string two on fret five for the high E string.

There are several free online tuners that function the same as one of the mini-tuners, you just need a microphone for your computer. You play a note, it tells you if you're sharp or flat.

If you have a Mac, Garageband has one built in. Click on the tuning fork next to the tempo display.

its pretty hard to learn how to tune a guitar, it took me a few months to get it right. you can buy a guitar tuner, which will tell you if the string is in tune or out, thats pretty easy. or get someone to teach you in person. The internet tuners suck, you have to judge if its in tune or out by yourself, and if you dont know how, its realllly hard.
