In the United States, does the second amendment cover political parties? Can a political party have a militia, or a militia campaign for elections at any level?

Yes. The second amendment doesn't preclude anyone from protecting themselves or banding together to protect themselves or their community should they feel it's necessary.

No one, even a militia group, can legally be denied access to the political process.

I don't know about political parties but the whigs and the Tories current day Liberal Democrats and Conservatives were once gangs of robbers. Also in the House of Commons the distance that the two sides of the House are apart was governed by the length of two swords and on each side of the House there is what is known as The Sword Line designed to keep opponents out of fighting distance from each other - no wonder politics seems boring these days!

A political party can't have a militia. States do have armed forces also, they are called the National Guard. States have to budget for them every year. The costs of those troops are subsidized by the federal government. But no, political parties don't have the right to bear arms, only individual citizens.

While the second amendment guarantees the right to own firearms it does not allow us to carry them where ever we want. That is a decision made by each state and most have their own versions of a concealed carry law, some don't have any provisions at all for it and some allow for unconcealed carry. All concealed carry states require a permit to do so and some will recognize the permit of other states if you are traveling. However, federal law does not allow for concealed carry in any federal building/ property (post office military bases, national parks, etc.), School (high school and below not colleges or universities), or place of business that makes greater than 50% of it's profit from the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises (bars) and each state will have more limitations from there. The big one here is "federal property". No guns in the places these politicians work except by the police and secret service who are dedicated to protect them, therefor, no private armies allowed. Nuff said.

No the 2nd amendment says "the people" a political party is not a person. Members of political parties have the right to bear arms.

At first I'd say no along with the others. But doesn't each politician have his her own security and don't they carry weapons? Who says that their security can and only contain 6 or 7 members. What if they hired say 100 security officers? Their main objective is to secure the political candidate but does it have to stop there.
I 'm sure other candidates would say "Hey what's this idiot doing spending all his campaign money on security." But is there a governing body who would step in and say that this is not responsible campaigning.
Good question.

It is intended to cover citizens and towns to which political party members belong. If they have a license to carry, they're fine in most states. But to have one party armed against another is another matter entirely. If Republican party had the right, they would carry arms against all others.

The Second Amendment covers only the rights of INDIVIDUAL rights, not those of a corporate entity such as a civic body, government or private organizations. Those groups are subject to other areas of public law.

Odd question. Members can own guns. Militias are illegal and anyone who uses force to run a political campaing is breaking the law.
