I am in the same shoes, but it is my wife. I am going to be 30 and I have a great paying job. I have been in the reserves for about 9 years. If I don't make my move now I will never for I am 2nd on a hire list. It will just be a matter of days before I get the call to be hired. Having a family now with a 20 month old and a wife is a little different than yours, but it is still a hard decision to make. YOU HAVE DO DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. I am like you, a people person. You just have to stay strong with your decision!!!!! good luck

Find out what it is that your parents don't like about the profession. They may be worried that you'll get shot. And, that's a reasonable concern.
There are lots of areas of law enforcement you can work. If you want to be on patrol, then pursue this. You're parents will support you, if not immediately, eventually. Other areas you may consider is Prison Guards, Parole officer, or working in the Court Systems.
Good luck.

If you need to ask this it means you are not ready.
When you want to be a cop you don't ask for permission or understanding. You just do what you know is right.
But as an advice I'd sugest you to wait at least to be 21 or older and take some criminal and law courses in collage and physical training. It's a dangerous and hard job and if you are too young it can be harder. You need to be ready in body and mind. If you feel you are not ready at this moment use the time to perepare yourself.

You are an adult. Go to the police station and ask them what you need to do to become a police officer. After about 6 months your parents will be more proud of you than they ever were before.
My parents ALWAYS told me to never dare go the military. I signed up before I even graduated, to the Marine Corps no less. When my parents came to my graduation in PI, SC, they later told me that they were never more proud of me.

You have to remember that some parents are never completely happy with any of the decisions their children make. Your job, spouse, house, whaddeva. So you shouldn't try to make them happy. Weird that they would be against you being a cop. Why don't you tell them you're thinking about becoming a career criminal.

I understand they are your parents, but what say do they have in your major life choices? Go to the academy and start your life. Even if they kick you out, find a roommate at the academy.

If you are of age, your parents should be listened to, but in the end you alone can make this decision for yourself. I do agree that your parents only want you safe, and I agree that another career should considered

Sure, they're your parents. But you have to live your own life, not let them do it.
Sounds like mama doesn't want to see her little boy grow up. Don't let them control your life or career choice. You'll regret it forever.
