The reason I ask is that the Catholic church is strongly anti-gay, and maybe the priests think it will be "less risky" to act out their sexual impulses on children than on, say, male prostitutes.

Not a comfortable question, I realize, but it's good to understand the threats that are out there.

sexual orientation has NOTHING to do with pedophilia.

get an education!

most pedophiles are caucasian adult males who are in long-term, adult heterosexual relationships with women (wife or girlfriend/fiance) -- who also happen to be plagued with a mental illness called pedophilia. for preists/ministers who are unmarried and who have committed pedophilia, studies have shown that the vast majority exhibit an adult attraction to the opposite sex.

You will find, also, that pedophiles most commonly molest/rape children of both genders. In the catholic church, 1/3 of the child-victims were girls. The majority were boys because the vast majority of children that volunteer at catholic churches are young boys -- there are very few young girls who have volunteered at catholic churches in the past for catholic ceremonies or for roles in the church, and, as a result, the kids who were supervised/controlled by the priests were mostly boys.

Your question (statement) insists that ALL catholic priests are ABUSING little boys. That is untrue and has been proven. Ther is an extremely small percentage of priests that are guilty. DON'T MAKE ERRORENOUS STATEMENTS like that. I have personally know a priest that supposedly abused a boy 30 years ago and no one knew about it. He went on to become a great priest, well recognized in his city, helped numerous people that needed assistance, volunteered in nursing homes etc and was well liked. A man came forward and insisted that he was abused by the same priest about 30 years ago. He could not prove anything and the priest insisted that nothing happened. The then boy was from a home where he was abused and the priest tried to help. The final results was that priest was 'removed' from his duties, foreced to retire and the church paid the 'boy' many thousands of $$$$ for his supposedly abuse. That is very sad but also true.

Those Catholic priests who have abused children; were in fact homosexuals. Most of their victims are male; approximately 80% of those abused by priests were male; either through rape or molestation. It indeed appears that it is a 'gay' profession. In fact it was reported by Kansas City "Star" in a survey that it is very common to assume your fellow priest is gay unless states otherwise, oy! Sad, sad state of affairs.

But, like I have mentioned before; God promised us priests after our own hearts.....says alot right there, no?

I think the mindset for many of these within what is known as the "Lavendar Mafia" (homosexual Catholic 'priests') it is a great vocation. Tons of men around; seminaries that promote this type of lifestyle, and the fact is that many homosexuals are predators; its just their sexual nature. They are homosexuals first--then molesters second.

I believe that it is possible that indeed it was less risky to approach these very impressable young boys/men...being homosexuals and thus have that 'predator' instinct they know who and whom they can approach without repercussions.

The threats are still out there within the Church. However, since the scandal began there has been a more acute awareness from many of us lay Catholics as well as all those who work with children. Does it make the problem disappear? No. Possibly it made it go back underground. The first step to rid the Church of these predators is to completely get rid of the homosexual mindset/culture within many seminaries; from the top down.

I suggest reading Randy Engel's book "The Rite of Sodomy: Homosexuality and the Roman Catholic Church" www.riteofsodomy.com. It's not for the faint of heart that's for sure. In this book, Mrs. Engel names names of Bishops, priests and Cardinals who are homos, as well as those within this so-called "Lavendar Mafia". Makes your stomach turn.

Another book: "Goodbye, Good Men" by Michael S. Rose

Also, the Vatican position is this:

May 16, 2002 "the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments reiterated the policy: "Ordination to the diaconate and the priesthood of homosexual men or men with homosexual tendencies is absolutely inadvisable and imprudent and, from the pastoral point of view, very risky. A homosexual person, or one with a homosexual tendency is not, therefore, fit to receive the sacrament of Holy Orders."

Sounds great, but again like I mentioned it needs be DONE and to do it well and correct is fire all the head seminarians that are allowing these men in the seminary...as it is very plainly seen that THEY themselves are homosexual.

God has called us all to give an account for our actions. It is a shame what is happening. I believe this reveals a core flaw with Catholicism. That is, it upholds the dictates of Popes and priests over the clear teachings of the Bible. You can see it in their multitude of errors...

Paul rebuked the church of Corinth for allowing someone to dwell among them who was still actively engaged in sin. The church was thinking itself to be "progressive" or "forgiving" when Paul rightly stated that to allow it to continue in their midst was inexcusable. The individual was feeling justified by the congregation, so he never repented. After the church kicked him out, he saw his error and finally did repent. So why doesn't the Catholic church teach this clear example?

Probably not.

According to mental health professionals, pedophilia is not connected to either celibacy or homosexuality.

This very small group of child molesters would be just as sick or evil whether or not they had taken a vow of celibacy.

Of course they are! Almost all such cases involves adolescent boys, not "little children". The secular press prefers to refer to such priests as "pedophiles" since that term creates a stronger emotional response, and it avoids casting homosexuality, one of the liberal presses golden calves, in a negative light. But virtually all such cases have involved homosexual priests preying on impressionable young men, just as many non-clerical homosexuals do.

Obviously such cases have nothing to do with clerical celibacy since ...

(1) most pedophiles (real pedophiles) are married men;

(2) the other 99% of priests are also celibate and commit no such crimes;

(3) the few priests who do commit such crimes are homosexual, so wouldn't marry even if allowed to.

Probably not. They do this because of the rediculous man made rule they imposed on themselves to stay celibate. The Prophets married women, are priests more 'holy' than them?

No. Pedophilia and homosexuality are different things.

It is true that both groups join the priesthood to avoid behavior they see as a sin and then it doesn't work out.

no, they are pedophiles.

homesexuals are people who are attracted to their own gender, pedophiles are people who are attracted to children.

certainly making a priest refrain from sex contributes to them acting out with children. they aren't allowed to have sex, an adult might tell someone, so they hope the children won't tell
