Because of the Greek invasion of Jerusalem in the time between the testaments. The Jewish people never believed in demons, good versus evil, heaven/hell. The Greeks brought those beliefs with them and imposed them upon that society. They re-wrote all Jewish literature (the jews actually have a day of mourning for when the greeks "translated" the torah).. hence you see absolutely no demonic possessions in the old testament, but the new testament is rife with them. Same thing with "The devil" and "hell'.

Some Biblical scholars would tell you they are all still in sheol because in Revelation it mentions that hell is opened up. Either way both places are pretty much the same as I understand it. The theory behind having one place in the Old testament and one in the New is that Jesus had not yet died for our sins in the OT. Because of that, the people who died before that could not really go to Heaven because the ultimate sacrifice was not yet made. So they went to a place called Abraham's Bosom. It was a place of waiting until Jesus could finish His job. There are some Biblical stories like Lazarus and the Rich Man that make us think that at this time there was a great divide between this area and the place where those you were not righteous would go. It describes the Rich Man reaching out to Lazarus and asking for a drop of water, so we believe that this area must be very similar to hell.

in the old testament the good and the bad were in the same place Sheol in the new testament Sheol is hades prior to Christ resurrection hades is divided into two places one where good people go and a place where bad people go and between these two places there is a great gulf fix one can not go into the other the bible does not just come out and say where we go when we die it tells us thou that there is a place for the bad people and the good people sleep in Christ . i think that its more up to the individual to come up with his or her own answer what happens to us when we die with guidance from god with the word of god found in the bible . the question where we go when we die is more complicated than the answer but the simplicity of Christ Jesus makes it easier for us to understand that it ant death we should worry about its the living that we should be more concerned about. . anyway its because Jesus wasn't on earth yet to be crucified and after he was he went to Sheol so he could separate the good from the bad . hopes this helps

The truth of the matter is the first version of the bible ever found had nothing about the devil or hell in it! Over the years there have been alterations on the bible according to the beliefs of Kings and Queens. The seven deadly sins were imposed by a king that noticed the factors that were making his kingdom turn to ruin and he made laws "The Seven Deadly Sins" that his community had to follow. He even had them in graved on his doorstep to remind passers by that he would have nothing to do with it. In the first Bible the Snake was just that, A SNAKE! The Bible was altered and there was said to have been a man in Reptilian form.

Sheol, hades, hell are the same thing, the grave, that is all. According to the Bible, the dead are not able to feel anything.
(Eccles. 9: 5-6, 10)

They don't go to hell in the New Testament. They go to Hades which is another word for Sheol. Hell will not be created until Christ comes again.

Because Christianity had this weird compulsion to make the world believe the way they did. A real effective way is to make them deathly afraid... so afraid that they'll do anything to escaped their "fate."

You notice how the Jews don't believe in hell, and at the same time don't feel the need to evangelize the world? You notice how the Christians and Muslims do? It's not a coincidence.

Prior to Christ’s resurrection, Luke 16:19-31 shows Hades to be divided into two realms: a place of comfort where Lazarus was, and a place of torment where the rich man was.

First off I am sure that almost all of them did..... Hell is just an hole in the ground where people are buried in.... Hell is not a place where people are tormented for ever. There are just so many false teachers out there that does not understand just what hell means. And they fill their followers head with bull-Sh*t and really confuse the world about that that issue....................... The bible is very clear when it tells you that hell is just a hole in the ground period and I am sorry that you were confused by some false teacher..........................................................................
