What do you think of the new shape Renault Mégane (owners especially)?

Hi, I'm trying to persuade my mum to buy a Renault Mégane as she's looking for a car. She really loves them and we found a perfect one with cream leather, glass roof etc. but unfortunately the sale fell through. I'm continuing my search but would just like to know what they're like to own. Thanks.

They are a nice car, had a few renaults in my time, had some trouble with gearbox on a clio (only 10 months old) but other than that very pleased. Driven a few meganes, found them to be nice cars. My aunties on her second of the new model now and an ardent fan. Would recommend them but check up on the net for any common problems people may be experiencing :)

I have one (bought new - built to order - in early 2003), which has (so far) been pretty reliable, but others have not been so lucky. I suspect the 3-door models (built in Spain) are more reliable than the 5-door models. Automatic gearboxes can be troublesome, the 6-speed manual much less so (it is a Nissan box).

There is supposed to be fault on them with the bonnet catch coming open and causing accidents. Check it out before you buy

I have a 2003, 53reg. megane bought new here's my list. sunroof failed (under warranty), water leak in passenger's door pocket (under warranty) driver's door mirror failed (under warranty) engine warning light on (under warranty).
Passenger's electric window failed (£261),engine sensor failed causing car to cut out (£178).
Plus I have replaced the battery,and the brakes have always screamed like a frightened pig. Other than that the car's still crap.

I love the look of them - I hvaen't got one I have got a soft top megane.
My imobilser is a pain tho - I hope that they got it sorted on the later models!
