As a benefit or a hindrance?

I think if you truly someone it is a benefit. Also if it keeps your significant other from nagging you, do it. I don't believe it's a question of being an atheist or not. It's more of a legal union. Tax breaks, health benefits, your girlfriends mother not asking when you are gonna make an honest woman of her angel. Things like that.

Each person views marriage differently.. I view my marriage as a benefit..

On a purely biological level a pair bonding (marriage) is a benefit.. For this we will eliminate love caring etc. from the equation.. From this standpoint a pair bonding enable a joint effort for the raising of young.. A joint effort to acquire food, shelter etc. for the young... That is a benefit because all the work doesn't fall to a single parent but can be divided between the 2 parents enabling less work and effort from each parent to acquire the necessary volume of good required..

Thus a benefit..

Add back in the love caring etc. and the benefits continue to grow..

If however there is no love, caring, joint cooperation etc. a marriage can be considered a hindrance..

Each marriage is different and each participant in a marriage is different... Marriages or pair bondings have to be looked at on an individual bases to determine whether they are a hindrance or a benefit...

Benefit or hindrance. depends who you are. Marriage is just a way for 2 people to say this is who I love, and I choose this person to be with for the rest of my life. Of course this doesn't always happen but it is the sentiment at the time of the marriage.

Well, I'm not married yet. I don't see it as a "hindrance," but I do think that it is not for everyone. Some people simply wouldn't be happy married. I, personally, look forward to being married and having a family.

Benefit.

Marriage is something that has been made a sham recently. I hope to be 100% sure about the woman I choose to be my wife, and will use open, honest communication to make a lifelong partnership work. I don't take marriage lightly, and I hope no one regardless of beliefs do.

if it was a hindrance, why would they do it?

when i got married, i had instructed the ceremony to leave out mention of god, but that didn't happen and i wasn't happy about it. we didn't marry in a church since he was atheist and i was pagan, but the minister (my uncle) still stuck god into it. he had no right to do that.

I think most people are too young when they first do get married, and even later I don't think most people realize what it means to spend the rest of your life with a person. Puppy love between girlfriend and boyfriend is great, but people need to get a grip. It is no surprise divorce rates are so high.

depends on the two individuals married, now doesn't it?

with the right two people it's wonderful. with a bad match, it can be hell* on earth.

*a figure of speech, which proves nothing about "what I know deep down" so relax, christians.
