At the end of your general surgery residency you would be able to do simple laparoscopic procedures like cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair and perhaps fundoplication, cardiomyotomy and colectomy. For more advanced laparoscopic surgery like low anterior resection, esophagectomy, left hepatic lobectomy you would have to do a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery. Of course a lot depends on where you're doing your residency.

It depends if laparascopic teckniques were part of your residency program. Why are you not asking the Chief of Surgery not take someone's word from Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!

You can do whatever you are comfortable with and whatever you have priviledges for. I finished residency 3 years ago and chose not to do a fellowship. I currently do Laparoscopic Cholecystectomies, appys, colons and bariatrics. Of course I did have to have documentation that I was trained to do these procedures in residency.

That will be part of your general surgery training.
