Yes. I purchased and used them when I was 14. American Express travellers checks.

You have to have a checking account. If your kid has a checking account, all he/she has to do is go to the bank and write a check for the total amount in traveler's cheques.

Of course, if you had a 5 year old he could purchase and use them too. However they are not the best and safest method of cash while traveling.

I have looked all around and not seen an age requirement. Why not call the bank or credit card from whom you want to buy them and ask?

They may have to be in his name in order for him to use them. Ask the provider about their conditions , if they have any .
