Why should we have to allow the politicians decide what WE as a people should be deciding on ourselves. Just thinking what other important issues could possibly be screwed up by them (elected officials) is totally disheartening. I am a Veteran, a citizen, and a very hard working American, but enough is enough. I want a citizens vote on Immigration reform, not a politicians vote.

I also know that we have a Representative govt, but with the track record they have on everything else they are doing, I believe we should be able to vote on this.

Pretentious is a good thing El Cuervo :) Just remember this, if our economy tanks because of all the ILLEGAL immigration issues, the whole world suffers, not just AMERICANS. And yes we are AMERICANS in the United States.... Have you EVER heard a mexican call themselves North American? Or Canadiens call themselves anything else but Canadiens?

Excellent idea and question...Californians seem to be able to put important questions/problems/solutions on a ballot. At a minimum it would be a strong message to those we have elected that we are unhappy with their failing to represent us..I have received many mailings from elected officials, occasionally asking comments about various topics...BUT NEVER HAVE THEY ASKED ANY OPINION/COMMENT OR RECOMMENDATION ABOUT THE MASSIVE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION PROBLEM!!!!! As to those who feel we have elected people to represent us,and we should leave it to them...YOU are so wrong..representing us means just that..it doesn't mean representing lobbyists or wine growers or cotton growers ,etc etc etc!

Well, the problem is that we are a representative democracy. We elected officials to legislate on our behalf.

However, I think you have a very good idea here. The politicians are too gutless to appear insensitive to these illegal aliens, so let them pass the buck --- to us!

In fact, this strategy should be used in other cases where the politians have a vested interest in not rocking the boat. For example, 25 years ago we were talking about reducing our dependency on imported oil. Nothing ever got done because it is not in the politicians' best interest to step on the toes of Big Oil.

I'm shocked welfare reform ever got passed.

Let's use your strategy to do an end run around politicians who won't get involved in issues that don't benefit their re-election chances.

you are the genuine which potential of an immigrant. What you assert is what our ancestors did, regrettably it extremely is not what maximum folk of illegals are doing. In a manner our agencies and gov have made it hassle-free for the MX to no longer assimilate. They print commercials and documents in spanish. there are countless television and radio stations right here and of direction press a million for english. however the MX is likewise to blame. they arrive over right here with the expectancy that individuals will adjust to them. That they choose do no longer something. The MX government is likewise attempting to make that ensue. they choose our rules replaced and lodging made for the persons who come right here illegally. the terrific answer for each guy or woman in touch could be for the Mx government to step as much as the plate and enforce rules to guard the persons and stress agencies to pay a residing salary.

Wow I could go on for hours about this! I completely agree. It is B.S that we have to oblige to what some narrow minded idiots belief is the "right thing" to do. Everybody is afraid of the truth! People complain about this immigration bill being passed but nothing is being done. My ancestors came here learned the language and paid their dues! It's amazing how some foreigners come here and get everything handed to them yet we as AMERICANS get the raw deal. It's basically saying lets take care of the immigrants then if we have any time and money left over we will try to help our own people!! Ugh!! This is so frustrating!!!

Turning it into a vote by citizens would be a sure way to make it one time that every registered voter got out to vote to be sure.

I would totally be for such an approach.

Seems those that are in office are too afraid to 'upset' those that they have been getting paid off by vs. the American voter that got them in office to begin with. Time for US - the American citizen to do something about that next time elections come around again.

We have a representative form of government. Simply put, Congress is responsible for representing the majority viewpoint(s).

Naturally, many - if not most - will say that Congress isn't doing their job. So why can't the issue be put to an open vote?

As I have read recently, certain parts of the country have so many illegals registered as voters, no one could be assured any vote of the people, especially this one, would be "accurate" of the citizens.

That's exactly what all members of my family think. If illegals can protest on the streets to demand "rights", why dont we do the same??? We have the right to demand that our voices are heard. We cannot relay on politicians because they all care just for themselves.

Yes we should. And the only people who would be oposed to your idea are the ones in favor of this amnesty. They know what the results of a vote would be, and they wouldn't like it.

See?

yes, except that we have voted in our representatives, so we really are voting for this in a way. The only thing you can do now is to let your rep/senator know that if he/she votes for amnesty, you will make sure that they will be voted out next term. You can write them a letter or call but you actually have to do it.

NO AMNESTY, call your rep/senator or write them. Let them know they will be voted out if they support legalizing the criminals

and of course people are going to call you a racist, but what they are really saying is mexicans dont have to obey a law that should be used to treat everyone the same. They are the racists. You are simply providing for a free and sovereign country. STAND UP to those who call you ignorant and racist. Let them know that the law is the basis for our freedoms.

Yes, I agree, citizens should vote on this, not the fat cats in washington.
