We are PCSing from NY to CA. We want to move our household goods ourselves but my family doesnt all fit in the rental truck. I want to fly my son home to my mom (who lives in CA) and drive with my husband and daughter. Does anyone know if the military will pay for my son to fly to CA, AND pay for us to move ourselves? My mom is willing to come get my son but I have to pay for his ticket.

I know I will make out money wise when I get there for moving myself thats why we want to drive, but I need the money to fly my son before the move.

I don't think they will. But check with TMO and they can tell you for sure.

you should probably have your husband go to transportation and ask. I know they give you a decent amount of money when you PCS to pay for gas, food, hotel, etc. but I'm not sure they will pay for your son to fly.

Be careful on the drive and take lots of entertainment! I've driven from CA to TN and it's a very VERY boring drive. Good luck!!

The military won't pay for the plane ticket, but I do believe they will pay for the "mileage" of vehicles (I don't know how many vehicles). I don't know how the army does it, but a friend of mine in the AF towed their car (on a car carrier) behind the moving van and listed it as a driving vehicle and claimed the mileage. That could be enough to reimburse you for the plan ticket. Just a thought, I don't know if it will help.

When you get to your new duty station, you have submit all your receipts along with some other paper work. I'm not sure if they will pay for your sons flight, but they will reimburse you for the cost of moving your household goods.

the military will NOT pay for plane tickets for a CONUS move unless the spouse does not drive and the SM cannot take the time to drive , or if the SM does not own a car.

Additionally, they will NOT pay for a minor dependant to move without at least one parent at the same time( for OCONUS moves)
