If your dog is a female she is most likely picking a bedding spot , not that she is pregnant but as a instinctual thing. natural tendancy, going into heat.

Good question. Dogs will often do this and the only reason that I can discover as to why they do is that it is a display of being happy. I've seen dogs do this digging motion with their head pushing hard against the bed covers, tail wagging and occasionally barking. They are just soooo happy.

My veternarian told me that it is instinctive that dogs try to make them a "bed" on whatever surface they are on. My previous 2 and current Scottish Terrier do the very same thing.

One of my dogs does this all the time. Scrapes up her own bed into a bundle (takes her aaaaages to get it right! LOL) until it's just the way she wants it.

Try talking to the vet, but clean your sheets because it might smell like food, or something he wants. Alot of times there is something they he wants, or hes trying to tell you something. Did you have food their? Smell the spot he's scratching at yourself.

Maybe there is a scent of a bug under the carpet and he is trying to dig? Anyhow, this is funny :) :)

It is probably trying to get comfortable. My dog does that too.

My terrier/Shi shu does the same thing. I believe they are bored and do it for attention. I know when I walk her twice a day, this doesn't happen.
