Can you see a flashlight when shined thru the radator from the rear? Some times debris cloggs the cooling fins that can be hosed out from the rear with a good garden hose nozzel. If not I would go with coolant flow obstruction either the t-stat isn't opening all the way or the radator core tubes have become clogged. You have to keep the engine less than 250 degrees fix it before you cook the engine.

doesn't make sense...fans are more for when the engine gets hot, such as when it is not moving and air isn't blowing over the radiator..but obviously get the fans fixed first...that is teh frist time I have ever heard of a car that over heats at speed not over heating sitting still...is something blocking the radiator? Like a bag or something perhaps? Doesn't make sense to me...do u mesn it over heats in stop and go driving? Rather than highway driving...anyway that is a head scratcher for me...fix the fans.

Grab the bottom radiator hose, and squeeze it. Can you pinch it closed? Change it. The spring like thing that is supposed to keep the hose open has rusted away, and when you drive, and a vacuum is applied to the hose, it collapses and no water flows.

Have someone rev the engine up while you watch the hose. See what it does?

Over heats while driving but not when sitting still, definitely waterpump gone bad. check your dealer for warranty coverage. the turbine inside will spin normally at idle, once you accellerate, the turbine is still at idle speed not cooling the engine down. by the way, check the 30amp fuse under the battery cover. there's three of them. one of them is for the fan operation. good luck.

I see these every so often working at the vw dealer.

fix the fans, especially if you are running the ac

also check for blockage in the core of the ac condensor and radiator...in other words look in the grill opening
