If they don't like the question why do they not just avoid it instead of being rude?

Because they are trying to reach out and get a response. There's usually a psychological reason, be it a cry for attention or a need to dominate. The logical thing is to just not get involved, but not all people think so rationally. That said, it doesn't excuse their behaviors, only explains it. They should still be reprimanded in a manner that leaves them as the obvious offender. Or, better yet, ignored. I guarantee that people who constantly make rude comments online hope that someone tries to make a comeback, and the ultimate defeat to the rude person is to avoid them.

This question interested me. I just avoided a question because I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to respond without telling the asker that they're "stupid". I have come to pretty much dislike Yahoo Answers for the juvenile banter. It's possible the answerers you're referring to have come to the point of needing to point out the surge of stupidity & some poor soul gets trounced on. It's also possible they're just here to be jerks.

That's their idea of showing off. They think it's cool and funny. Even more fun is when the msg their buddies to go look at how rude they've been to a total stranger, ha ha ha.

Too many people aspire to act like an audience member of the Jerry Springer show.

Or maybe they are 21 with the maturity of some one 12. Most of these people are boys or young men who think it is funny to be rude. Most likely they also have very few friends. I am like you. I usually bypass the question.

Maybe because they really are stupid? Stupidity, in all of it's glory, is hard to hide.
