The car is trying to start but won't. My hubby went and bought this thing that is the same as the distibutor cap and replaced it and that obviously wasn't the problem. We are getting really frustrated.

It is not the battery because we tried jumping it with our expedition and that didn't work either.

He has also tried to unplug and ground one of the spark plugs and it wouldn't crank either. We are starting to think the brain is bad. What do you think??

I am not Mr. BF Goodwrench but my sister has the same car and make and she had this problem. Her problem was a faulty starter but they also checked her relay and solenoid switch. Not major repairs but a hassle none the less. I don't know if this helps or confuses. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Check the rotor arm in the distributor cap.. clean it ( it just pulls out and you rub the leadign edge ( the metal) on you car tire that will clean it dont scrape it. Look in the distributyor cap.. is it cracked are the connectors inside ok... .. Check all the leads to the spark plugs are connected. Look at the earth strap from the battery to the car body... It may be loose wher it attaches to the car not the battery.
Have you tried to get someone to jump start it?
When you say it wont crank does it make a clicking noise or no noise at all. does the engine turn over just not starting??. If no noise check fuse box check the fuse to the ignition system look to see if fuse has blown.. Infact do that before you do anything else.. Then check the earth strap.. it goes from the negative battery post to the car body .

Check the wires to the battery and or boost the car cause the battery may have a dead cell and it is not detected unless you have it checked. sometimes the battery needs water. Pump the gas patel and then try starting it. Then again it really could be the distributor cap. Also check out the ignition. I just bet it is your alternator the voltage regulator could stop the car from starting. Also driving at night with headlights on could drain the battery too and this will stop it from starting. If one of these help you -------give me a star.

If it dosn't make any noise when starting it is most likely the starter.
