in another dimension?

And could I ever meet that 'other' me? If the script has already been written, I feel like this life is one where I'm playing catch-up- hoping to bump into my other self.

If God is outside of time (something the Bible nowhere states although many believe this is what it means for God to be 'eternal') and thus sees past, present and future all at once from 'outside', then your whole life exists all at once from that perspective and not only are you not free, your sense that you are making decisions is an illusion. You are, if this perspective is correct, simply a character in a movie that God created eternally.

If God is temporal (i.e. has past, present and future), then it is theoretically possible for God to know what you will do in the future and for it still to be free, if that knowledge is based on the future free decisions and actions. But in that case, God is not free, since God will spend eternity unable to change anything since everything God foreknew would have to come to pass for God's foreknowledge to be correct!

It is possible to believe that free decisions and actions that are perfectly foreknown or predestined is a self-contradictory concept, like a square circle. If so, then God not knowing our future free actions would not be a limit on omniscience. It would just mean that (as C. S. Lewis put it) "nonsense remains nonsense, even if we speak it about God".

It is true that God knows everything and He knows the future. But do not be confused to say that there is no free will. Maybe you had the impression that God dictate the future? Every event that happen are the results of man's choice because they have freewill. God knows our future because of His knowledge as He knows everything and NOT because He dictate the future!

Whoa! OK, take a look at it like this.

First, you must accept that GOD is outside of time, not controlled by time like creation. This must be true since GOD created time.

Second, being outside of time, GOD is able to "see" all that has happened, is happening and will happen all at the same time. Hence, GOD is ALL-KNOWING.

Third, Paradise/Heaven is in the presence of GOD. GOD is outside of temporal constraints, ergo Paradise/Heaven is outside of temporal constraints. Being eternal as such, ALL humans destined to be in Paradise are in Paradise. We would perceive this as being present in Paradise at the same moment we are alive on earth.

It's not a game of catch-up. Just think of it as a final exam. Do the best with what you already know, don't try to cheat, be patient, be happy.

Also, for your own sanity, don't try to think on this too much. You'll go crazy. Kind of like trying to make sense out of time travel and what you can do and can't do in the past without affecting the future. LOL :-)

Our existence is on a linear time line not a layered one. God wants us to concentrate on our present actions not look forward to the future. It's the actions we take now that determine the road we will be on in the future. That's why being sensitive to the Spirit of God and following His lead is so important. It keeps us moving in the right direction and making the best choices so the consequences of our actions will lead to the future God desires for us.

As simply hearsay and guess-work exist for it, I really can't answer. /But/ if everything is predetermined, your future would encompass a 'past image' visiting. Therefore, you're not "playing catch-up" necessarily, but there really is not rush - what happens, happens.

And say the script is already written. Wouldn't it also account for you meeting your past-self? So essentially, consciousness is defined by identity+time, right?

..right?

Please Note:

God definitely knows about your future actions, what you are going to do every day every in your life time.

God has awarded you a free will in this worldly life to either perform a good deed or a bad deed, while it has been explained clearly what is good and what is bad.

Nothing will be recorded by God unless you actually perform those actions to reward you or not accordingly.

But He the All Knower knows what exactly you will do. So you cannot blame Him for your actions.

If that Free will is not given to us, then there is no meaning in getting awards or punishments.

very Interesting that you ask,

In the Bible important Prophets were told ahead of time who they were and why they were born.
Off the top of my head I think of.

Joseph
Sampson
John the baptist
The only begotten Jesus

and others, God knows who follows him and who won't. Jesus has come to rescue those who do follow God.

Is your name written in the Book of life?
