Maybe my assertion is wrong, but many questions I have seen here imply that the askers assumes that there is some united groups of atheists.
These questions typically begin with the words, "To Atheists"

i'm never adding details to my questions again. People tend to harp on the details and miss the question. My point is not to argue about the correct way to address atheists, it is about why the need to group them together seems to exist.

Probably the same reason that they think there is a united front of Christians.

Since we are not atheists and many of the atheist answers are "bashing" many of us "like me" lump you all in that "camp" as you have not enlightened us differently.
All I know is that atheists don't believe in God or Satan. They don't believe in heaven or hell. They believe that when they die they die and no afterlife. They believe that the Bible is a fairy tale. Some seem to be nice but the "instant responders" to Christian questions - the ones that bash - are giving all of you a bad rap.
Why don't you tell us about the different types of atheists instead of the "united front or united groups". I have used "to atheists" before because what else am I supposed to call you? I think having you on this site makes things interesting (when questions are answered properly) however, the haters and bashers need to move on.
Please tell us the "difference" in atheism :)

Aah, but they don't begin with those words.
They typically begin with "To Athiests", "To Athesist" and sometimes "TO ATHIST"... etc.
Edit: When someone is directing a question at a specific group, they address that group. Whether they be united or not.
For example- Guys: Do you think I'll get lucky tonight?
Girls: Why are guys only interested in one thing?
Politicians: Are you all corrupt?

I think in part it is a bit true, but at the same time it's in the way that you would adress an intended group. i.e. To christians, To guys, To all. We all know that there is no united front of men in the world; still you do have a bit of a point there.

Well, I suppose, as many people have answered before me, that people start off questions by saying "To Christians", when there are many different sub-groups. I try not to generalize, but I do get mad, and then I'm not nice, so I try not to contribute to "bashing".

Well, we are united in our lack of belief in any gods. They could just as well start their questions with "To those who don't think there are any gods..."
I actually find it to be a positive thing. At least there is this outlet for them to really ask atheists questions and get answers. I think the variety of answers they get from atheists will clue them in on the range of our beliefs and non-beliefs.

Well, the same can be said about the people who seem to believe that all Christians belong to the same group, that there is no separation of these people into smaller, diverse groups.

actually i belong to the atheist revolution society. We meet in various underground places. We have a secret handshake. Mostly we burn bibles and make smores.

We're more like a secret cabal -- like the Freemasons but without the stupid meetings and dumb costumes.

"to atheists" to me simply means that the question is directed to the individual atheists here.
