20 years ago we didn't know what we do now about salt, sugar, and fat. Today, young guys especially, still don't care about those things. It's more expensive to produce the healthier foods. Hopefully more mothers are raising their kids on healthier foods, and explaining the bad about too much sugar, etc. So maybe in 20 years from now your idea of everything being produced as healthy as possible will be a reality. Interesting question, by the way. I give it a star.

Because any time a manufacturer changes a known, loved, and time-tested taste -- even if it's just a little change -- sales always suffer. (As an example, I present the tale of "New Coke").
Now, what if the company presents the healthier variety as a new product? Well, for each new product, entirely new production lines or methods must be introduced, not to mention advertising costs, inventory holding costs, etc. In addition, the substitute ingredients to make the item healthier often cost more. Consumers look at the original and healthier item side by side and expect the "same" item to cost the same -- so, the manufacturer loses profitability.

Unhealthy food tastes better to most people. Also, if companies made healthier food, they would have to pay more to make it because healthy food such s vegetables, fruit, and diary are going up in the price. so, they are just better off making the same food as before because it costes less to make and customers seem to like it.

well there is a change in taste when foods are prepared with less oil and salt, sometime there is no change depending on types of foods,
if people like me are thin and underweight and with no health restrictions i wouldnt mind having a whole meal without sacrificing in taste and qualty of food,
but the main poin is that the taste does vary,
try whole mik and skimmed milk and see the difference.
companies make food with less of salt and other ingredients so that people having medical problems like high cholestrol and blood pressre an enjoy these meals without giving up that food for life.

I know what you're saying. I wish they would do that too. All the companies should be making the healthiest recipes they can within their means - I realize its often cheaper to use fattier ingredients but that needs to change. Just like fruits and vegetables should be cheaper than buying bags of chips.
