it reinforces what you learn in school. Many teachers claim that you learn through repetition. HW gives you an opportunity to repeat the skills you learned. HW is like practicing. Very few people can play a prof sport or instrument without practicing. They do it to get better. This is why students do homework.

HW also functions as a diagnostic tool to help you and your teacher figure out what you need more help in.

Homework is important, because not only does it help you review stuff but it helps you practice the material you are currently learning. it can also help your brain from tiring out and forgetting the material. It's helpful to keep you busy after school, and keeps your learning going throughout the day. Homework is very important.

I have taught preschool, 1st, 2nd and 4th and my primary reason for a little bit of homework was to teach responsibility so that early on they will form the habit of doing work at home and bringing it back the next day so this will become like a habit and much easier to swallow when older.
