In my last post, someone responded that Jesus died the death we all deserve. I've never heard anyone say that before, so I was just curious if other Christians agreed that we all deserve to be tortured to death?

No we do not all deserve to be crucified. However, the poster's point was that Jesus took on all our sins and suffered the physical punishment we all (as a group) deserve as by God's Law, so that we (as individuals) would not have to.

If you look at the Old Testament before Jesus came, animal and other sacrifices had to be made for our sins. Compared to God, we are really "filthy rags" 'and this sounds awful but how would you feel if you never ever sinned or did anything wrong and you were treated and scurged and crucified for someone else's sins. Ray Boltz has a song and it says "Do you still feel the nails, every time I fail " and that line really sends chills down my spine to know that Jesus actually did suffer for every sin of every human ever born so yes, that was a lot of nails and how many nails do you cause in a day ?
VERSE:
Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of
the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as
a continuing memorial before the LORD.
-- Exodus 28:29

THOUGHT:
In a symbolic way, the Priest had all the people of Israel "on
his heart when he entered the Holy place." Jesus, our ultimate
Priest, had our sins on his back and our forgiveness on his heart
when he went to the Cross for us!

PRAYER:
Tender Shepherd, I know you love me because of the great price
you paid to redeem me from my sins. Thank you for having me on your
heart despite my sometimes rebellious and unfaithful ways. In
Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

God created man to commune with Him. Some choose not to. We would get what we deserve in this case by being seperated from God. (Hell is not "torture" ... Hell is total seperation from God for eternity. From all that is good and pure and orderly. From the source that holds the universe together. Etc.) The effect of the cross is that a new creation begins as the power and love of the risen Christ - who died but then rose again and is alive forevermore - works in human lives by his Holy Spirit.

No, we are NOT Christ and therefore dying like he did would not do any good. He died for our sins so that we may go to heaven. Why would torturing a human do anything of the sort? Sometimes anger makes people say things that don't make sense and I think it applys here. Have a great day and God Bless!

The point is that Jesus is sinless. He is perfect. Yet he chose to die so that we might live. The fact is we all sin everyday and Jesus never has. I feel like we all deserve to die a sinner's death and go straight to hell. Yet Jesus chose to take our place. I don't know of anyone else who would be willing to give their life to take another's place - especially a person they do not even know!!

He did - He took our sins upon himself which meant that He took our death sentence which in turn meant He took our Hell which meant He took our separation from God. The cross did not have anything to do with torture, it was the death penalty at that time, which the Romans used against non-Roman citizens to quell rebelliousness of other nations they subdued. Crucifixion was the death penalty enforced by the Roman gov't - and they were masters of it!

But we all deserve death! However by His Stripes we are healed, by His Love we are loved, by His Righteousness we are made righteous, by His relationship with God we are made into sons of God, sons of righteousness we are what he is because He became what we were!

Understand correctly. They were saying that Jesus Christ, who was perfectly sinless, took our sins upon Him and died a horrible death for you and me. Yes. We owed a debt we could not pay. Jesus paid a debt He did not owe. We deserved death, yes. But because of the cross, we have life if we " choose " Him.

No... God loves us with an everlasting love and wants us to be in line with His will for us. He knows we are fallen and has made a way for us to have a blessed eternity by the sacrifice of His Son Jesus. Our tortured death would be meaningless because we are not God. Sacrifice is only atonement when it is pure and unblemished.

Wow! If we all got what we deserved we would all be in trouble. It is true that all of our sins, big or small cause us to deserve death. But, God did not want seperation between Himself and us. God is 2 things. He is love, and at the same time, He is Holy. A true Holy God can not come near any hint of sin, because He in His purity, and justice would have to bring a penalty against the transgression. Just as a judge would have to bring judgement against a theif, or rapist, or murderer. For every action, there is a reaction. Our lives are all sewing and reaping the seeds we have sown with our lives, whether that be good or bad. But, God KNEW that we would never be able to match His own standard of Holiness, and He knew we could never be good enough on our own. So, He made a way for us to get to Him, because He needed a door from us to Him. This "way" this "door" was Jesus. Jesus did die the death we deserved. True, we are all not cold blooded murders and rapists..but there is no degree of sin with God.They are all equal in His eyes, though we measure them. God never wanted us to be bound by sinful nature's, but at the same time He wanted to give us a "choice" to love and serve and obey Him. Unfortunatley, Adam and Eve "chose" that one fruit, out of all the limitless others, to eat. They didn't really choose a piece of fruit..they chose to be their own God's, and disobey the only One who really loved them. I know this had to hurt so deeply to the heart of the Father, that they chose death over life, but He made a way reconciliation for us all through the death and ressurection of His Son Jesus. Now, He who knew no sin, became sin for us all. God is full of grace and mercy..thank God or we'd all be dead..He has made a way, for us to be "pardoned" from the penalty of sin. When we accept Jesus, and all He did..we are no longer worthy of such a death!! :) Now He calls us "the righteousness of God IN Christ Jesus" Now He calls us, "Kings and Priests, a Holy people" because now when He looks at us, He no longer sees our sin, He see's the blood of Jesus. He see's us IN Christ. Clean and pure and Holy! :) God bless! And keep seeking Him! :)

By standing up for our beliefs we can be made fun of, not wanted by previous friends, not believed by our own family,so forth and so on-------yes, Even if you lived in Church 24/7---they have something to say about you and the better they know you, the worse it gets, cause they have more to say, and if Christians listen, well that's not right either--its a rare Christian that really stands and says,"I am not a garbage can" don't give me your trash!
