I would say the term was made up by someone who was trying to convey to someone that we are to bring our children up in the word of God. Or it may mean the term Godparent as when parents are selected to watch over a child if the real parents die. catholics chose God parents for their new born children.

To look after your godchild should parents become unable to do so. To act in the place of god who usually does not act in these cases (some say because of his non-existence).

Parents that love you for who you are and stand by your side no matter what. But, if you abuse their love, then you wouldn't be a good child.

My parents gave me everything I wanted as long as I go to Uni and study something, give back their love, and don't do drugs. They'd stand by my side even if I robbed a bank!....as long as I don't do drugs....

Dunno. I don't have godparents. But to my cousin, it mean getting $100 every time her godfather comes to visit. Which is at least once a month, and $500-$1000 for her birthday and Christmas.
