I say listen to your parents. Although you may not think so, the know what's best for you. If you're not allowed to have one yet, wait and when the time is right, the right one will come along. hun, you're 12! it may be 'real' in your eyes, but your parents are doing their job, looking out for YOU! Keep the friendship, but you shouldn't be trying to persue anything more. You're young, ENJOY IT! I have a 13 year old niece and she has her days that she thinks 'we're out to get her' when we're only looking out for her well being. trust your parents to know and to help you out. You're only young once, enjoy and relish it.

your parents love you a great deal . that is evident in their protectiveness of you at this time of your life. its very appropriate for them to be as protective as they are at age 12. why would you want them to allow you to engage in activitys which might place you in situations you are not yet prepared for. i only wish my parents had watched over me that well and it would have spared me alot of pain during my young girlhood.

they will gradually begin to let you have more freedom as you show them by your compliance with rules, respect for their judgement and mature behaviours , that you are ready to make safe, wise decisions about your life. i know you are just friends with this person but for now it needs to stay just that.
