Firstly maybe they do lick their salt wheel when you are not around. Secondly my rabbit didn't have a salt wheel for the first year or so of her life and she survived. Your rabbits will not die from it. The only reason I put a salt wheel in my rabbits cage was because she started biting and someone told me she is looking for salt. We have salt on our skin which was why my rabbit was biting. Once I gave her a salt wheel she stopped biting. Maybe they are getting enough salt from their food. Check the ingredients. How long have you had the salt wheel in there for? Just leave it in there and give them some more time. Also make sure you always have plenty of water for them to drink because the salt wheel will make them thirsty. And maybe try moving the salt wheel. maybe it is in an area where the rabbits have trouble getting to or an area where they just don't like going.

One, rabbits are more nocturnal so if they are going to lick a salt and/or mineral wheel, it will most likely be done at night when you are asleep.
Two, animals including rabbits only ingest what their bodies tell them they need. If they do not need any salt or minerals, they will not lick the stone.
Factors such as overall activity, individual metabolic function, and available diet will determine the intervals to which the Lagomorph will need to use a salt/mineral stone.

As a breeder I give them to my rabbit during the summer to make sure they drink allot which as you know if you drink allot you pee a lot. This flushes them out like it dose us. Use feed with 16% protein and yucca in it as this helps with the smell of the pee. I do agree everything should be in their feed. Not the treats. i feed my rabbits an inch chunk of carrot not the baby ones as they have been soaked in chlorine to preserve them. But real carrots once a month and once in a while some whole grain cereal. Other than that nothing else. And yes some love it some could care less. Give it a while if she doesn't eat it than don't worry about it.She should be getting 1/4 cup of feed a day. If she gets over weight it isn't good on her heart. Hope this helps any other questions just ask.

My bunny doesn't lick her's very much either. Maybe they don't like salt or maybe the food you give them has allot of salt in it.

It doesn't matter that they're not licking it, it just means that they're getting all their necessary minerals from their diet, which is great! So long as you're feeding lots of hay, rabbit pellets and some veggies your rabbit should have no need for a salt wheel.

why does it matter really? maybe they just don't want it?
my bunnies liked to lick the salt wheel (but they always took it off the holder thing) and my guinea pigs rarely if ever licked it. (now i only have one piggy and he never licks it)

I raise rabbits for show, I have at a minimum of 150, I have no salt wheel in their cages, never have, if you are feeding a good food, along with hay, you won't need them, also use tap water, they need the minerals found in it.
