i have an advanced vocabulary and i get stares when ever i take it for an airing. i also get the cow chewing cud blank stare when ever i choose to speak up. How should i go about using my vocabulary

Well, languages were invented because of the need to communicate. Cavemen only made noises and languages developed from those noises.
If you have a very advanced vocabulary you can use it with educated people who will understand you. If you are talking to a less educated person you should try to use more common words if you really want to communicate with them..
If you were talking to a deaf person you would try to make yourself understood using your hands, right?
"Communication" is what it's all about.

It's not a bad idea to choose your vocabulary depending on your interlocutor: if he has a basic vocab, then keep things simple; if you're conversing with some erudite character then employ all the advanced vocab you can muster - wothout sounding like an idiot.

I love using my vocabulary to mess with people. Even though sometimes I am ashamed of being smart (not to sound conceited or anything) I say use it. Dont worry about the stares! They are just trying to process the information. Its all good....

be subtle when using words. use simple words when talking to an average people, coz it might suggest that you are pompous or being an a**. just give little hints at first that you have an advance vocabulary by using big words once in a while. take advantage of them and know when to use them.

There's no reason you should make yourself sound dumber just because others can't seem to understand some of the words you use. Just speak with whatever words you choose to use, and if someone doesn't understand.. explain it to them, and they'll have learned something valuable.

just wow them with your awesome vocabulary. mine sucks, and i know that when a friend uses a word i dont know i learn it easier.

just use words you kno everyone else understands you can always throw in one of ur advanced words tho
