it's not feline, feline is the name for the species, like canine is for dogs.
Tom is the name for a male.
Good question.
A bull is the name for a male bovine and cow is the name for a female bovine, but we just refer to them generally as cows, even though it's incorrect.
I wonder if cat is the name for a female feline? And dog is the name of a male canine?

If she hasn't been spayed she's called a Queen. If she's spayed, she's a cat :-)
Male cats are only called Toms if they're not castrated.
